What is MassHire?

MassHire is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Career Services and provides workforce services, job search resources, and support to job seekers through regional Career Centers. Massachusetts residents seeking or in need of employment are often referred to MassHire by other Commonwealth Departments, including but not limited to the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA), the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), and MassAbility.

Can MassHire help me with my Unemployment Insurance claim?

While many job seekers are referred to MassHire through the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA), we are separate Departments. MassHire South Shore can provide referral to some DUA services. Call 617-745-4000 Ext. 0 for more information.

What is RESEA?

Federal guidelines require states to randomly select unemployment claimants for participation in the Re-Employment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program. If you are selected, you must participate to collect benefits. The Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) selects claimants for RESEA and the Department of Career Services (MassHire) administers the assessment.

How do I schedule a RESEA Meeting?

A RESEA Counselor will email you to schedule a virtual meeting 1-2 weeks after completing your Career Center Seminar.

Can I get individual assistance with my resume/job search?

Yes. Individual assistance is available through specified Workshops or through Counseling Services. In both cases, individualized services must be scheduled and are not available on demand.

Can MassHire extend my Unemployment Insurance benefit?

No. The Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is responsible for approving benefit extensions. MassHire South Shore may be able to help job seekers find grants, loans, or other funding sources to supplement the DUA’s Training Opportunities Program (TOP).

What if I want to work with a different MassHire Career Center?

Basic Services like Workshops, Recruitment Events, Job Fairs, and Resource Room Services are available to any Massachusetts job seeker at any MassHire Career Center. Individualized, Enhanced Services like Career Counseling are only available from one Career Center at a time.

(Employers) Can MassHire help me with payroll or training employees?

MassHire South Shore can subsidize employee training for Massachusetts employers in very specific circumstances. For loans or grants, employers should consult the Executive Office of Economic Development and/or the Small Business Administration.
